Statistics of Success
The squad of the most successful national team which won the gold medal at the European Championship in Munich in the summer of 1993 included the following Bayer 04 players: Moritz Kleine-Brockhoff, Michael Koch, Henning Harnisch and Christian Welp.
The women's team has also contributed to the successes of the basketball section. They were German Champions twice in 1976 and 1978 and won the Cup in 1976, 1977 and 1979.
In the youth sector, numerous German Championships have been won in the various age categories. In the two decades in which basketball in Leverkusen has belonged to the highest class in Germany, more than 70 players from the basketball section were selected for the national teams by the German Basketball Association.
The national objective of Bayer 04 Leverkusen's basketball teams is not only the fight for the German Championship and the Cup. Almost as much importance is attached to the coaching of young basketball players by outstanding coaches.
